FastBreak Celebrates with Andrew Bogut

The FastBreak Basketball Club celebrated the end of the school year and its 5th full season of competition with a special guest, Andrew Bogut of the NBA Milwaukee Bucks.
Over 300 FastBreak players and family members turned-out for the year-end ceremony, held in the SAS high school gym.
The Australian native and #1 pick of the 2005 NBA draft provided some very inspirational and insightful messages for players, parents and our coaches.
Andrew spoke about his own experience playing youth basketball, how he over-came a major set-back -- he was cut from his State Junior team -- the commitment and role played by his parents, as well as the personal sacrifices he made as a teenager to earn a basketball scholarship to a US college.
Bogut was an active participant from start to finish, signing autographs, leading a Mikan Lay-up demonstration, and posing for team & individual photos. In total, he handed-out trophies to over 45 award winners: Mikan Lay-ups, Free-Throws, Coach’s & Director’s Awards.
Andrew wrapped-up the afternoon with a Q&A session, after which all players were treated to pizza and drinks from 100 plus.
Later in the evening, Andrew was the guest of honor at a small Dinner Party to celebrate the completion of FastBreak's 5th basketball season in Singapore. Guests included the FastBreak coaching staff and the club’s “Platinum” users: those families whose children have logged the most practice time in the gym and have been with FastBreak since its inception.
The trip to Singapore was Bogut’s first, but certainly not his last.
“The game of basketball has been very good to me,” said Bogut. “Working with younger kids is one way of giving back.”
“There is a great need for more basketball development programs in SE Asia. I expect to be back and doing even more next year.”

The FastBreak Basketball Club currently offers developmental and competitive programs for children ages 4 to 18 at two venues in Singapore. Registration and try-outs for the Fall ’09 season will begin in mid-August.
