Fall break camps prepare FastBreakers for upcoming seasons

Fall Break is nearly gone and the school basketball season is nearly upon us.  In the last two weeks over 65 FastBreakers turned up at UWC East to participate in camps designed to get them ready for their upcoming seasons.

The first week of camp featured station work and competition for elementary and middle school students during the mornings.  All ability levels were represented as developmental kids worked on fundamentals to help their progress toward competitive team play and some of our most advanced 11U and 13U boys scrimmaged to keep their skills sharp.

In the afternoons over 15 high school students (and 2 ambitious 8th graders) participated in our basketball boot camp to get themselves in basketball shape before high school tryouts at SAS.  The participants in these sessions impressed the coaches with their attention to detail and focused intensity every day.

This week, during the second week of fall break for UWC East, Coaches Mesecke and Breslin debuted some new teaching points that FastBreak will be utilizing in all of its sessions going forward in a 3 day shooting camp.  There was a broad range in ages and abilities that turned up seeking to hone their jump shots.  Progress was measured by the coaches in a series of drills during the first hour of camp followed by scored competitions during the second hour.  All participants left camp with an advanced understanding of the 3 main components of an effective jump shot.

***The FastBreak staff is pleased to report that the kids who turned up to the "Basketball Boot Camp" met with success during their tryouts at SAS this week.
