With every new season we have new players joining our program, and in many seasons we are able to welcome some new coaches. We have two new coaches joining us this season, and would like to take the opportunity this week to introduce you to the first of our new coaches, Murphy Murad.

Coach Bio: Murphy Murad

Murphy Murad joins FastBreak after recently completing a successful scholarship basketball career at Division II Southern Connecticut State University. She was a two-year captain and starting point guard. Murphy led her conference in 3-point shooting percentage as a junior and was among the conference leaders in assists her junior and senior years. As a senior, Murphy led her team to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2012.

Murphy graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience and minored in Chemistry and Biology. In anticipation of applying to medical school, she plans to take the MCATs early next year. Her academic honors include being named to the Northeast-10 All-Academic Team in both her junior and senior years, and the NCAA Division II Athletic Director’s Association Academic Achievement Award all four years.

Murphy also had a very successful prep career, and holds her high school’s all-time record for career wins (95). As a senior captain, she was voted All-State by both the New Haven Register and the Connecticut High School Coaches Association (CHSCA), and participated in the CHSCA All-Star Game as well as the JCC Schoolgirl All-Star Classic. Murphy was a three-time all-conference selection and was named team MVP as a senior. For her work in the classroom, she was named to the conference's all-academic team.

Murphy is proud to be associated with the Connecticut Cobras AAU program, one of the top clubs in New England. She participated in many marquee tournaments on USA’s East Coast, and her team advanced to the national semifinals of the 16U division.

As a coach, Murphy has worked camps in her hometown, as well as with the CT Cobras and Quinnipiac University. Her father, “Coach Kirk”, invited her to demonstrate her shooting and ball-handling skills at a Fastbreak camp in 2015. She specialises in shooting and defence, and obtained her Gold Basketball Coaching License from USA Basketball earlier this year.

Whilst Murphy will be working with multiple age groups and players across FastBreak, she will be instrumental in leading our Girls programs as a coach, mentor and role model (as well as player-coach with our 18&U Girls playing in adult competitions).

We look forward to Murphy arriving in Singapore next week.
