FastBreak U16 Boys take home gold!

Last weekend marked the inauguration of a new holiday tradition, the Fastbreak Thanksgiving Turkey Cup. Seventeen teams competed across four divisions to earn their title as the first champions of the tournament.

In the U14 girls division, the first games on Thursday indicated a competitive pool with only 3 point differentials in each match. Ultimately, Beyond landed on top with a win in the championship match against NYGH, 52-36. NJC was able to cling onto the bronze in the 3rd place match-up late on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Sharks dominated the U14 boys division, racking up double digit wins in every game leading up to the championship game. Their 3-point shooting gave them an early lead against NJC in the title game as they took home the gold. The third place match-up between Fastbreak boys and ACSBR was a thrilling game with multiple lead changes. Our own Payam Rastkar hit a game winning shot to clinch the bronze and Fastbreak’s first medal of the tournament.

The teams representing U16 boys had several single digit wins across the board making for a very tight race to the championship game. In the end, Unity fell short of making the finals but dominated the 3rd place match-up to take home bronze. The championship game did not disappoint with Fastbreak and ACSBR as the two contenders. During pool play ACSBR was able to hold off Fastbreak with a 4 point win. However, our Fastbreak boys were able to redeem themselves with an incredible team effort and a 56-53 win for the gold.

The U16 girls represented the largest division in the tournament with five teams. NYGH and Unity started the weekend off strong and were able to maintain their momentum to put them both in the championship game. In another close finals match, Unity pulled out on top with a 49-43 win. Our girls grabbed the bronze for Fastbreak’s third trophy of the tournament to finish off the weekend.

A big shout out to Singapore American School for hosting our first Thanksgiving Turkey Cup. Thank you to all the players, coaches, and parents for coming out and making it a fun weekend of basketball. We hope to see everyone back again next year!
